Our SDG Commitments

DRL has been working to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the last two years.

We focus on 4 SDGs .

We strive to organize and produce events that align with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs):

SDG 3 aspires to ensure health and well-being for all, including a bold commitment to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other communicable diseases by 2030. It also aims to achieve universal health coverage, and provide access to safe and effective medicines and vaccines for all.

SDG 5 achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Empowering women and promoting gender equality is crucial to accelerating sustainable development. Ending all forms of discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right, but it also has a multiplier effect across all other development areas

Goal 10 calls for reducing inequalities in income as well as those based on age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status within a country. The Goal also addresses inequalities among countries, including those related to representation, migration and development assistance.

Goal 13: Climate action means stepped-up efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-induced impacts, including: climate-related hazards in all countries; integrating climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning; and improving education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity with respect to climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning. It requires mobilizing US$100 billion annually by 2020 to address the needs of developing countries in moving towards a low-carbon economy.

How DRL is supporting SDG 3 .

DRL strives to inspire people of all ages and walks of life to pursue health and fitness through active lifestyle events. Its signature event, the Dhaka Half Marathon (DHM) promotes the benefits of strong mental and physical health and resilience for all Dhaka dwellers.

How DRL is supporting SDG 5 .

DRL actively promotes female participation in all its events. The number of female runners in the Dhaka Half Marathon has been increasing with each edition and has also featured reserved places for females to further encourage women from all walks of life to participate.

How DRL is supporting SDG 10 .

All DRL events are a place for people from all walks of life, age groups, races, ethnicity, income levels, faiths and experience levels. Since the inaugural DHM, we have hosted participants from 30 nationalities and from all over Bangladesh, ranging in age from 16-65 years old, representative of a wide range of professions.

How DRL is supporting SDG 13 .

We know climate action can be addressed in a number of ways and always strive to implement direct and indirect mitigating actions where possible in our events. Our initiatives have included replacing plastic cups with paper cups for DHM 2019; using bibs made of fabric instead of PVC-based ones; and ensuring a waste-free venue after each event.
